Congratulations on having this piece selected for the welcome page. I enjoyed your rhymed couplets as you described what poetry means to you. I liked your comparing poetry to the "flower or the stem". Cheers and happy Easter evening- Joan

I love the lines at the beginning and the end of your poem:
"a way for people to see
the words they cannot hear
when my voice seems to disappear."
You have given many of the responses that poetry is capable of engendering but the chief joy, I think, is the glimpse into the mind of another human being - the chance to see, feel and empathise with the sheer humanity of another person.

This was a beautiful poem. I enjoyed reading it very much. It gave great visuals. Rhyme was not forced. It read well, flowed graceful. Subject kept my interest. Exceptional work, and many blessings.

You definitely touched on the truth of poetry, it's left to the mind & emotions of the reader. Well presented verse, a pleasure to read. Good luck in the contest. :) Dame

Yes, the feeling is mutual. Words in unison are force indeed. Mild, raging , soothing; they seem to find the mood where a voice could often not be enough.
A great ode to our beloved poetry, especially at this time.
Bravo,
best wishes,

"Reading and writing to determine what poetry means to them", what a perfect description. Poetry so often has so many meanings to each person that reads it. Wonderful job of describing what poetry means, and good luck with the contest.

If you don't win the contest, something is wrong. I love this one, it says it all, and I think everyone will agree with you. I had a smile when I read the only piece that didn't rhyme, that was where you were telling us...
some poetry rhymes, and some does not-
poetry means something different to everyone...
of course that wouldn't rhyme, that is what your words are saying. Very clever and really a pleasure to read. Good luck in the contest! xsx Sandra

Hi Shelley...
Nicely put together graphic and colors... The poem reveals the true identity of what poetry can meant all...
Keep Smilin'... Jax
