I enjoyed reading this. Your feelings are expressed well in the verses. The words seem to flow from the pen to gather your thoughts nicely. You have done a great job with this.

Hello Marillion
Sorry I'm so late reading your lovely poem
(Behold this Child)
when you said-

We hold this child -- and see ourselves
As we were long ago,
Before that cage of time and rage
Became our mortal foe.
Nice (very nice)

Gert

This may be "simple" in your view but it
is none-the-less a heartfelt ode to the beauty, innocence
and promise of a child.
I can't help but think he and his parents will treasure
your gift.
It is an exquisite piece. Nancy

This is a nice poem for his christening, and one that he can cherish the rest of his life. You show in your poem how important one life is, and how special it is that he is beginning a journey. Every child is a precious miracle to behold.

I don't usually like writing poetry on demand but on a few occasions that I did, I like what came out of it. This, though not your typical style has come out straight from the heart and powerful. 'Behold this child -- entreat your hearts

With faith and hope compiled,

To raise each glass, and wish en masse

For love to hold this child.' I like how you ended '...for love to hold this child. We can't go wrong with love. Well done. Emeka

It might not be like your usual work but still very beautiful and utmost suitable for the christening. He looks gorgeous in the photo.

You know what? I think that occasional verse is the hardest of all to write. How to make it fresh and original? How to steer clear of cliche? How to combine sincere feelings with a certain formal dignity, which the occasion requires?

THIS is how.

Every time I read something of yours, I admire you more.

Mike, once again, you truly flatter me, my friend. I feel like I could become a penny poet and write these all day. Nice of you to say it's not cliche, since I do feel it's a rather a common poem.
