Babies do certainly change daily routines. Yes, I can see Harry could be a little character. What a cutie. Love that this is written in meter and reads so smoothly. Good rhymes in your abab rhyme scheme. No forces rhymes. I noticed good use of consonance and assonance.

Coincidentally, I have just posted a poem for my grand-daughter, who was also long-awaited and sadly for us remains our only!
Your piece is nicely written in rhyming quatrains and portrays not only he huge upheaval in our lives when a baby arrives, but also how quickly little ones learn to assess and manipulate clucking family and friends - where do they get that knowledge from??

A very good poem and you are correct a baby will cause changes in the lives of the parents but the rewards of a loving family are endless.

Just a suggestion, but I would look at lines 2 and 4 of the second stanza.

Thank you for your pleasant comments. I presume you were referring to an apparent lack of rhyme in lines 2 and 4 of the second stanza. May I suggest you look up 'near rhyme' in any respectable primer that you may have, where you will find that it is a time-honoured, most useful DEVICE used by even the best of poets. You might also google it. If you say such lines aloud you may hear how close these apparently jarring lines sound. There is a distinction between ear-rhymes and eye-rhymes. I apologise for my long overdue response, but my wife had passed away just two months previously. Peter@Poole
