My guess is little Darcy might not have long to live if she carries on being the little "B" she was in the last two chapters. Someone might just get the hell in with her. Nice chapter, very well written. I wanted to smack her and must say I admire Brian for not doing something to her on the spot. Lol. You're getting me all riled up here. Well done. Luv jada

Heca (Vulture)Moon, indeed, for that is exactly how I perceived this Miss Darcy character. A wolf in sheep's clothing, if you will. She certainly opened the door and allowed Father DeShano to step in the trap she'd laid for him, didn't she? What a rude young lady, with a very rusk demeanor.

I like old Alyx already, and I've just met him for the first time. Of course, I am a big 'dog' person, so it came as no surprise to me. If there is canine companionship in any story, I'm all for it. I can't tell you how I would have responded to Miss Darcy's request to remove Alyx from the room. I wouldn't want you to think ill of me. Let me just say that I'm no priest, and my response would have been a bit more...colorful than Brian's.

This is an excellent story, with wonderfully fleshed-out characters, spot-on dialogue, and an interesting story line that keeps the reader engaged and involved in the story, it's characters, and everything that's involved with them.

Very well done, Writingfundemension...

Hi, Dean. What a gracious review! Thank you for taking time to read my chapter and offer such supportive and encouraging insights. I'm a dog lover, too, and I think I would've have told HER to leave. Warmest regards, Bev

I liked the play between Father Brian and Alyx, it read true and simple, a conversation between a solitary man and his dog. Very well done. Your introduction of Darcy as an unsympathetic character (at this time) is done with her revealing blouse, comment about the church and the sticking door, asking her host for a specific coffee, coffee too hot, room too cold, etc. May be a bit heavy handed. The one thing I do suggest you change is, 'she gushed'. Gushed is not in line with the good solid writing of the rest of your piece. I think you are a gifted writer and am looking forward to more of your story.

Mystery and crime is where my writing and reading interests are, so I was happy to see this chapter.
It was nice of you to put the characters in the notes, but I followed just fine while I was reading because you did such a great job introducing them and you were creative with the dialogue. The Darcy character was really well done. You set us up not to like her with the dog growling, and then you made true to the promise by making her full of loathsome personality traits. She's one of those characters you want so badly to be guilty, but probably isn't.
Loved it!

What a little bitch! I remember I disliked her from the beginning, but now we see truly, what a self-serving, manipulative and cold person she really is. Geesh! She drive a nun to drink! :)

What a disgusting vulture Darcy is. Though I have insulted vultures with that comparison.
How neat that the priest had a visit from Debra and Darcy had a visit from what's waiting for her!!
Nasty woman!!

You've started using the same picture and it confused me. I assumed I'd read it. From now on I'll open it and check if my review is there at the bottom of the post.

I guess your story runs along several parallel lines. It seems many moons ago that Debra Padget was murdered but we haven't had the funeral yet. There will be many strings to bring together.

Darcy really is a piece of work! You've got her down pretty pat. She's a rude, obnoxious woman. Little wonder she beckons the shadow. LOL!

"We can set the CREMAINS on a table ..." Is that what the cremated remains are called? Brand new word for me!

Oh, I really don't like Darcy. Maybe you could arrange to drop her in the killer's path next time around.
Well done, Bev. Got me involved with your characters. Father Brian is a dear!

This story has a very interesting plot and I thought your characters were developed very nicely. Even the dog shows personality. That is always a good sign for me when I'm enjoying a good story. There is a good solid foundation,
and I really enjoyed reading this.

Hi Bev,
I'm back from vacation and playing catch up, so forgive me if this is a bit late. As always, you've written another outstanding piece full of its usual excellent dialogue. I like the way you start out with the interaction between Brian and Alyx. I'm a dog lover, so of course I really enjoyed this. You do such a great job of getting inside Brian's head and letting us see how he perceives Darcy Shaw, who comes across as quite rude and bitchy and also somewhat manipulative. I did not detect a single spag. The only thing I wasn't too crazy about is that picture of the snake--yuck! Don't like snakes. But it fits the theme of your novel quite well since there are a few snakes in the story. The fun of reading this is trying to determine who all the real snakes are. Excellent job, as always, my friend.
Hugs,
Connie

Hi, Connie. I've been missing your poetry! So glad you are back and, hopefully, freshly inspired.

Your gracious and generous review means so much, Connie. I'm glad the 'bucks' are still available as I'd hate to think you went through all the trouble with little to show for it. Your words of encouragement are pure gold, Connie. You've been so faithful from the beginning. I can't begin to convey adequately how much that has meant for me. Love ya, Bev

What nice things you say to me, Bev. While on my trip, I could only look at FanStory--couldn't, or at least didn't want to, attempt typing reviews on my IPhone. But I did look at your chapter and made notes to myself so that when I returned I could type them up. So--see how special you are? Love ya right back,
    Connie

Dacry---bad intentions, devil in blue dress. Setting him up like that I can only imagine how the Father only wanted to abide and ensure a meaningful funeral; to be put into such a bind. Excellent read. Looking forward to more.
