Wow, an epic rant indeed stating many truths. All writers want their work recognised, but really why do they do it? For me, I do it to please myself and pat myself on the back, if others want to join in, then that's fine. Have faith in one's own ability. Many great writers are overlooked, for example, Paul Beatty turned down by 18 publishers then went on to win the booker prize! This story says it all. I enjoyed your poem very much and I usually read and write shorter poetry. An amazing write. Love Dolly x

Thank you for the fantastic review, Dolly. Yeah, I write mainly for my own enjoyment. This was just about some injustices that goes on in the contest venue sometimes. I really appreciate the gracious stars and that you liked my lengthy rant, lol. Thank you again.

yes indeed! I definitely see why this won all-time-best. a well written sonnet and a poignant message. many times have I lamented missing a perfect score because some simpleton didn't grasp the meaning of a poem. I almost don't mind a poor rating when I visit the reviewers' page and see that he/she is a decent writer, it makes a 3 star easier to stomach at least. but it really saddens me when I go to view their work and see that they can't write a lick. if you were to harshly critique something I wrote, I would listen close and heed your advice. nice one!

Thank you for the excellent review and big sixer, friend. Yeah, too many people on here get the concept that a 4 star review means it needs improvement. They give you a 4 then tell you they like it but that shoots your overall six star rating down and it takes forever to get enough reviews to get it back up again. That happens a lot with the newer members. But what can you do? Lol. Yes, that's one thing I've learned on here, many folks don't "get it" unless it's dumbed down and sure as crap, will knock it down in stars because of it. I'm glad you liked the piece, S. I really appreciate the generous stars. Have a good one.

Well! That was an eye full and an eye opener. As a (believe it or not) newbie here (yes I know my profile says '04) it has given me something to think about when I consider paying for coins and as a result reviews and stars.
All in all I enjoyed the way you played with words, rhyme, subtlety and outright gnashing of teeth. I am learning a great deal about the formal forms of poetry every time I read an obviously talented word-smith like you.

Well! That was an eye full and an eye opener. As a (believe it or not) newbie here (yes I know my profile says '04) it has given me something to think about when I consider paying for coins and as a result reviews and stars.
All in all I enjoyed the way you played with words, rhyme, subtlety and outright gnashing of teeth. I am learning a great deal about the formal forms of poetry every time I read an obviously talented word-smith like you.

There are many times when what I wrote about happens but there are times when they don't too. That's how I've learned most of my writing skills is by entering the contests on here. The words alone should tell the tale and I really agree with what you say about the coins. You have to gain points before you can promote yourself when you think you are already promoting yourself by writing a poem and putting it on the site. I thought it would be easier to have my poetry read. If you want to have way more exposure join PoetrySoup.com and it costs under 40.00. The others on the site comment on your work and you can enter any of the contests free with no hassle of points. I am on it and love it.

You can enter as many poems as you want everyday so there is no limit on your entries. It is a nice site.

I love the honesty of this poem....life Is not fair....yet Honesty brings warmth to an unfair world...it Is the vision behind this poem I like...it Does not flatter or puff up it simple brings a denied reality to the hall of fame...I Came across a magazine in the supermarket the other day, a picture of a women on the front appeared to be photo shopped to death!! The caption below read "flawless beauty" I laughed to myself and thought yea I really want those plastic lips!! No! The narrow path I will take!! Great poem! :) ps. My grandmother was an English teacher...so Sometimes I choose to purposely blunder my grammar just to buck the system....to Be flawless is rather shallow :)
