A great story! Lots of action, and gripping suspense from the very beginning. I most liked the "you are there" feeling you lent -- I felt as if I were one among this company of Odin's sons, and experienced everything along with the protagonist. I also liked Ivar a great deal because he was not a one-dimensional figure. Hated to see him die!

Good ending wherein the suspense continues, leaving the conclusion to the reader's imagination. I enjoyed the read! Congratulations again ~ Raven.

This is an interesting piece. I must admit, I usually don't care for pieces that depict confrontations with "redmen" but your story is well written. It is not at all what I expected and the turn of events was very compelling. Good work and good luck.

Brilliantly will written story that was captivating from start to finish. Good use of adjectives to create strong and powerful imagery that sticks to the readers head and a good build up of thrill. Wonderful ending, really enjoyed this and best of luck in the competition.

I found the story mesmerizing. After realizing it to be over 5000 words, I started to pass it by, but after reading the first couple of paragraphs, I was hooked. I found the storyline to be persuasive and challenging. The characters were convincing and realistic. The story is rich with conflict, action, suspense, and mystery. The piece is written in an excellent fashion, with nonstop action. It was an enjoyable read.

Well done,
Curtis

Wow! I can well understand why this was a successful contest entry. The historical detail had the ring of authenticity, the characters were vivid and strong and the whole story moved along at a cracking pace. A most enjoyable - and scary - read!

Well I don't often read horror-thriller fiction, but I love the Viking period, so enjoyed your start setting & historical details of the warriors, told from the diarist's point of view (which of course makes for a good ending) - couple of small nits:

Some members of the audience nodded their ascent(assent)

pervasive fear(I know you love the phrase, but you used it a couple of times in the piece)

But excellently written! :) Sharyn

I am Bear smith, & I just became your newest fan. I liked the structure of the story it flowed well and the structure of it was reasonable. I love Vikings, and you made them vulnerable to the fishmen. I like the ending. Are you going to take this to a part two?

    Thanks Tina,
I am happy you liked the story line. It was a little longer than most postings, but I felt like it helped build the suspense to the climax.
    Take care,

    Dave
