Hello again GW
This is my life in a nut shell with my biological children. They have chosen to not have a relationship. Sadly, their children will never get to know me either. I am not the same person from 30 years ago

I'm sorry for that bit of news. Sometimes children, even grown ones can't let go of a bad memory or memories long enough to know that their parents are just people too. I hope this works out for you and I'll say a prayer to go along with that thought. Thanks for the review.

A poignant poem about someone forgotten and abandoned by so called loved ones. A sad commentary on a society that is too busy to care for the keepers of wisdom and experience.

Thank you very much. I'm not one of those emotional types but this show really got to me.

Hello Hargis,

Old or not this one is saying buzz off you silly twit. I don't want pity visits, you are either my friend or you are not! Guilt is indeed a useless emotion cause it would be so much worse to have someone drop by and keep watching the time. Well written and specific. Loved it! xoxo Kiwi

Aloha GWHARGIS, Oh! so sad, I does make my heart cry. I know folks that take their dogs to the hospital to cheer people up. They look so forward the seeing and petting the animails. Thank you for sharing. Aloha, Ginger Hawaiian Mermaid

Hullo GWHARGIS ...

In this short work, you have expressed well, the sort of thoughts and feelings of old people who are left by their family members to spend the rest of their days in an institution - an old-age home or even a hospice. I am old and I live alone and often wonder how long it will be before 'someone' decides that I can no longer stay in my own home on my own. I don't worry about this, preferring to whisper ... "I leave that to You, dear God" .. and I just carry one from day to day .... knowing that one day, the end must come.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
There is nothing to suggest changing.
Love from ... Nanette Mary.

I am so glad I found this when looking at your profile. In simple heartfelt words, you highlight the misery of many, and will hopefully stir the conscience of those who are guilty of forgetting their elderly friends and relatives. Nobody wants to be reminded of how they may end up themselves, which may be in part the reason why this happens, but being reminded is a good thing. Thank you for sharing this lovely free verse. Thank you for sharing. I find this to be all too true for some people. I don't understand why it is so hard to keep in touch or why friendships have such a high turnover. You certainly pack a lot into these words. Thanks, MarlaRae

What you write about in this sad and disheartening poem does not happen in all cultures. In some parts of our world the Elders are respected and cared for. We should learn from this. Thanks for sharing your poem on this very important subject.

For sure this is very sad, unfortunately is a real situation in our society these days. You write heartfelt and sincere words. My fave: "No stopping by. You're way too busy it seems."

Sad how people have time to stand in line for an I-phone for twelve hours but not a thirty minute visit with someone in a nursing home.
