I enjoyed the read very much. Can't fault it. Sorry, no advise. I think you've GOT IT. And I relate to yours and Nalus situation because one of my grandsons is exactly like that. Only I don't have the say. And grit my teeth. He's undiagnosed and still in a good expensive school with all the other kids. Tea's ready (grub's up) Gotta go

Fantastic...what a gifted storyteller you are...and obviously a very loving and caring parent...I absolutely loved this read. As the grandmother of 2 autistic children, the educational system can both appall and amaze me, at the same time. I am so glad you spent the day with your son. He has a great champion in you.

learning abilities or disabilities, as they
rather call it.
I have friends with children who have similar
qualities as Nalu and know for a fact they are
geniuses. Her son is disruptive in class, a clown
and an artist who draws while the teacher is trying
to teach and passing around his artwork. She has
done everything, lose to having a nervous breakdown
to try and solve her child's dilemma.
But, as you point out, so beautifully in this very
poignant piece, they are perfect, just the way
they are.
This was a very wonderful and enjoyable work.
I wish you all the luck in the world in the
contest.

This is an excellent story. I can see why this was nominated for story of the month. Very evident intense emotion of a mother just trying to do what is best for her son - love, worry, frustration. Excellent writing. Good luck in the contest.

He's 15 now and a lot has worked itself out. He also is a brilliant artist with the makings of a terrific architect, engineer, planner, etc. In his early years, some well meaning preschool teachers suggested he was retarded because he couldn't color inside the lines. He took longer to read too, though his vocabulary is older than he is!
Sorry to prattle on, your story just brought so many memories up.

It wasn't for dyslexics, they had no teacher trained for that disability. But the school got extra state money for each child placed in this class. I threw fits. Your story was very well written and grabbed me from the first paragraph.
Though he's nearly (eight), he's reading at a less than (five) year old level. - except for dates, all numbers under 100 should be written out. This includes fifty percent.
And my (non-believing) heart is breaking.

Then you'll know the rage and frustration and tears I'm talking about Ms Purrfect! corrected the # thing - thanks! in theatre scripts we write the actual number as scripts are aimed at a "quick" read ... and the / mark was actually a vocal guideline (meaning "pause")but of course is a bit of a mystery if you're reading as prose. Bless you for the detail! Love it!!!
