Interesting picture. Looks like the tree of life, the Good Jewish Book. Your words are very poignant. Yes, the words still remain in the hearts of those who hold them dear. Great job with this piece. :)I also enjoyed reading your notes. The media is biased and our country in some ways behaves cowardly. Our freedoms and tolerance are sometimes a catch 22.

I regret to inform you that I believe you spoke truth as I am working with media bias in not one but two stories and how they were presented diametrically opposed. As well as the governments role in them...

I really enjoy this review and thank you for it and the compliments. Mike

"I regret to inform you" sounds like bad news. :) You're welcome.

Not bad, it just sucks. Because of my unique life, I find myself mired in the Florida shooting, the Baltimore beating and any thing involving crime and right to carry. LOL, what a lot! I am trying to figure out a way to cut though the emotions and politics to get common sense to work. I guess you could say, Atlas shirked.

I hear you. Faith starts in the heart. It was passed on for centuries by tradition before the written word. The Islam faith runs deep and they don't apologize for it. Christians shouldn't either. Your poem makes for a good Senryu.

Hi Mike,

This is an excellent 3/5/3 poem and after reading your notes I feel as you did when you wrote it. Nothing religious should be burned and I agree the demonstrators didn't deserve to have our Flag or our Bible but I hate that they burned them. I don't think our apology, to the Muslims, is a sign of weakness instead it was the proper thing to do as we should never stoop to their level. This is a fine poem and author notes....chey

Baseed on this review, I guess it is best I haven't been blest with either time or money, as I would have procured all religious texts and photographed them emblazed for use with this poem. I settled on the symbolic.

In America the prison problems rests with the Bible. How can one deicrate what the self described believers have already descrated for their own use and desires. Apologizing if a great virtue, provided it is earnest and not a means to appear fair, but capitulate to those who have their own uses in it all. In the case of the military burning of the Korans, i fault the leadership of both the United States and Afghanistan as they want to quell the imediate problem generated by people's furur, intsead of standing tall and making the arugment for the actions, then trying to illustrate the greater wisdom and trying to teach understanding behind the motivations of those so enraged.

I fear that it is American politics, we are imparting to the nations we are trying to get to build their own nations. It's not the apology, but the populatirty contest and in that case we figure out in the enemy's of the world's designs. With the Koran's burning, I see it the same as when we err and create colalitral damage. Intent is everything and when we apologize instead of telling the truth, it tips our hate to those who are our enemies, when the greater education is pointing out the problem in the first place. I fault today's media for being to politically savey and accomandating instead of seeking to get the complete story out first.

Whether you call me the man in the middle or the little boy with his fingers in the dike, when Bibles are burned by Muslims, and Christians want to burn a Koran, I always replied, "If burning your religious texts have that effect on you, why would you want to put that same effect on other's who value the Koran?"

Despite my comments, I love this review as it prompts a discussion I only wished our leaders could figure out. I am under the gun for a poetry submission, but there will be a series of letters to the editors and op-eds created. Mike

Which poem has you under the gun? Are you getting into trouble again? I must keep my eye on you (smile)

The winter one not yet written. Perhaps by the end of the night. I don't need to get in trouble as it has no problem finding me. LOL

Late for work and have to go. Will catch up later.

God's word is written on hearts. I believe if you have diligently read the Bible its message will still remain even if the Bible is taken away. His Holy Spirit will bring it to life. I fully agree with all that you say about the media in the Author Notes, but people are waking up. I think that is why sites like this are so important. We still have freedom of speech and can write truths.

I'm not much of a fan of haiku or senyru, but the message you convey here - along with the marvellous pic - is a valuable one indeed. It sure doesn't matter that the "paper" itself is burned. As you said, the words are imprinted in the minds and hearts of all who read them. As always though, the media loves to paint an incorrect picture and sadly, the first "report" the public hears is the one which stays in their minds. I've always said the power of the pen is mightier than the sword. Well said in few words :) Cheers xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxxo

I don't think I understand what you were actually saying in your author's notes. I wasn't sure which side of the religious question you sat, and it muddied the message I got from your poem. In this case the message derived from your 3-5-3 piece was cleaner, clearer and less jaded ... xoxo Kiwi

I was using the notes to point out the contrasts of how both religions are treated, as well the attitude in viewing such. I thank you very much for your compliments and this review. Mike

Interesting little poem well written and well presented. I found your authors notes interesting too especially this part

[They were the property of prisoners who used them to pass coded messages to each other.] - now days prisoners use them to hide their mobile phones.

True, so in a sense, the prisoners themselves desicrate them. I thank you very much for reviewing this poem as well you compliments. Mike

yes they do, female staff aren't allowed to touch them so it's a perfect hiding place for drugs and mobile phones. They hollow out the pages and stick the phone inside.
