Your grandpa had one heck of a week, it seems - nothing like getting shot, sliced and hitting a mule to liven up your daily routine. I found your yarn about days long past very enjoyable and personable, my friend. Thanks for sharing,

- TR

I started reading this with interest, got a little amused by the second story, and was laughing my head off by the time I read the third event. My husband used to be an engineer on the RR in Alaska.

There must be some real stories about being an engineer in Alaska! Thanks for reading and your kind comments. Bill

My husband wrote a book on his tories on fanstory several years ago- his name- I believe was Holliste-on fanstory. You could still pull them up if your interested.

Such a fun memoir piece! I had such fun reading it. Truth is always stranger and funnier than fiction. Who could make these things up? I live near LaGrange, New York. Not much ever happens here according to some. But last month near a corner with a stoplight, a young girl pulled out of a gas station and across two lanes of traffic to turn down the road (instead of going to the light)She reached my lane at the same time as I (who had a green turn arrow up ahead). No time to stop--I hit her side door--5200 dollars worth of damage to my car and lovely bruises from my seatbelt for her mistake. Tell your brother he should check out other LaGranges around the country.

I loved this story.

Thanks for reading! Oddly enough, we are sensitive to cities named LaGrange. There are several. LaGrange was the name of the home of Layayette. Thanks for reading. Bill

What a wonderful ending to a terrific story. It is filled with details and imagery from the small town comaraderie and local lore.
I loved the coincidences, the humour, and the beauty of the relationships.
Well done.

Wow, bhogg:

And I thought my family had some strange things happen
over the years. I think a television series may have
been named after the week about which you write: That
Was the Week That Was!!!

I'm surprised the fourth article about your grandfather
that week wasn't his obituary after your grandmother
murdered him!

Thanks for sharing
love,
jan

Thanks for reading Jan and for the kind review. Several of the stories that I've written involve my grandparents, usually my grandmother. Warm regards, Bill

you seem to admire your grandfather.
I'm with your brother.
Although, it's not about LaGrange, it's about your grandfather!
You may not have purposefully revealed it, but he is someone to avoid.

Wonderful story with humor. Your punctuation correct, or at least as I know it. There are so many favorite passages, don't know where to begin. The boxing match, the collision with the mule, all are memorable reads! Les

Hi, Bill. Great writing here. Full of down home type humor in some spots...a bit scary in others. Isn't it great remembering times with our grandparents? Different times, different lifestyles etc.
Just a small thing and maybe it doesn't really matter:

" He was dead on impact, but everyone said he looked like he was just sitting there taking a nap." (although we can sort of safely assume it was the mule....where the windshield is involved, you may want to make it clearer that it was the mule that "died on impact" LOl

Grat write, Bill...Bob (should be story of the month next)

That was a nice story. I enjoyed reading it. I found no issues with how it was written or with punctuation. You planned it well and it unfolded as it was meant to. You would make a great story teller. That is how I read it as if you were sitting in front of me telling me the story. Good job!

Thanks for reading Candis. A rating of four generally indicates improvements need to be made. If you spotted something I need to revisit, please let me know. Bill
