This is a beautiful and well-written story. I felt that I knew George and hurt because he is gone. The pace of the story is just right and I could tell the love Catherine had for him. Well done, truly a great story.

So well written! Within a few short lines, you brought us into the this world of kindness. You also taught me that God Our Father, made all creatures for our pleasure and happiness. Doesn't the love just flow out so easy when we speak about the love animals give? Man can give too. Why is he so fearful to love another person? Wish you would write more stories on how animals are capable of giving love so freely. You made me happy today. Thank you.

Hi, Mamukie. I always try to be open to the voice of Holy Spirit in all that I do. I believe that your review is a positive nudge in a direction I've been considering lately. Thank you for 'listening' to your own inner prompt and being part of a bigger plan. Animals are one of the Creator's most precious gifts, for sure. Blessings, my friend. :0) Bev

A moving piece, Writingfundimension, with no jarring spelling and punctuation errors. (That's important to me because they spoil the flow of the story.)

I'd like to read the story of George's rescue and how he helped Catherine move through the dark periods of her life. There's a lot of dramatic potential there.

A couple of phrases that didn't sit well with me, maybe because they seemed too flowery, which detracts from the sincerity of the piece to my mind.

"peace flowed from his eyes"

"leave behind shed tears." - I think "the tears they had shed" would read better

"as evening came courting"

It's your writing, and if you're happy with those phrases, no matter.

Wow Bev, what a moving tribute to a sweet old horse and I found especially moving the scene at the end with the companion horse. Reminds me of a movie I saw recently where a dog did a similar with his owner that had died.
You captured the size and power of this gentle horse and told the story with wonderful compassion. I agree, maybe the party WAS more for the owner. Obviously the horse meant a great deal to her and she wanted everyone to know it. Thats not a bad thing. Thanks for sharing this sad yet very well narrated expression about a horse seeing out his days, loved and treated very well by his owner. You couldnt ask for better fan mare...whoops I mean fare...than that.
Cheers Closet xoxo

Thank you, buddy. I admit feeling, at the time, that the whole thing was surreal. Years later, I can see the value of what my friend did for both George and the humans there. It was an extraordinary gesture that I find in retropect to have left me with an indelible memory. Though Catherine and I are no longer friends, I believe she is an exceptional person in some ways. Very much like you!! What a beautiful review you here, p. Hugs and snugs...Bevvski

I was drawn in immediately by the first sentence, and indeed reading the first paragraph intrigued me, and convinced me to read on. The author has taken a sensitive topic, and approached it in a positive way. I shed a few tears as I moved through the piece. great flow and pace. simply liked it, and have no suggestions for improvement.

Moving! Your experience must be ethereal,
great!
Very well-written and beautifully told story, a real one.
The horses are really strong and powerful, dangerous at times.
But when we love them, the scenario changes.
Pleasure to read!

Very sad. Patches missed George as much as anybody. It's a shame that "advanced rectal cancer after months of suffering through tests, x-rays and long trips to equine centers. When the tumor finally manifested itself" I know thatsa sad day. Remember when my dog died of kidney failure. Touching story! Les

Bev, Your story is exceptionally well written with tender, poetic imagery of this beloved horse's wake and passing. I particularly like the very original scene of Catherine sitting in the stall, entertaining dark thoughts. The system will not allow a six, though it is truly worthy. If you haven't already seen the movie, War Horse, I truly recommend it (bring plenty of tissues). Blessings, Hector
