Susan, this is a riveting story of the ways and plight of the American Indian. I thought especially effective beginning it with Tecumseh speaking. Indians believed in coexistence with Mother Earth and your descriptions of nature added much interest. I believe there would be little difference had he lived. We have much to answer for ... the white man annihilated an entire people. Enjoyed this, Suse. Hugs, Susan

Susan, Well written story that contains realistic dialogue and narrative. Your story contains acts of heroism in the face of possible extinction. Tecumseh's closing words of wisdom were exceptional. Blessings, Hector

Word count: 886 when I copy/pasted to my word software (no, I didn't keep it, silly).
I liked the creative approach you took in turning history on its head--would have liked a bit more of those details (what life "Might" have been like, etc. Nice work here, Suze. Great illustration chosen too. Best of luck in the contest.

I am enamored with Native stories and enjoyed this one as well. Did Tecumseh really use the word "religion" though? I would doubt this concept or word would be part of his lexicon. In any case I enjoyed the work. Larry

HI Larry! I wondered this same thing. The history buffs say he said it, so who knows. He was a great orator and speaker. I will have to do more research and possible find a professor somewhere who may know for sure. VERY good point. Thank you. Susan

It was probably a very loose translation, but 'what the hey" it gets the point across. Be well, Susan, Larry

Susan,
This is an excellent "what if" alternate history, without any nits or such that I could find. I enjoyed reading this story, especially its narrative style.

Susan,
This piece of superb fiction is extremely well writen about the America Indians. It's so sad in our history what our country did to a proud people. Many died on a Trail of Tears. Your descriptive writing is excellent. Great characterization and melacholonic narrative. Your writing gives the reader the one two punch of great emotion. I enjoyed this descriptive that's filled with much passion: "The people who do not belong here, who come to our lands, they bring changes that will take our freedoms away. On the winds blow death and much unhappiness. They seek to destroy us; our way of life, our culture and they will steal our land. We must fight them. This is our home. We will not let them take it." Wow, I bet this story wins. Your story paints a picture in the readers head. You've effectively managed to establish a setting, conflict, and a resolution to your story. I wish you good luck in the Native American Fiction writing prompt. I'd recommend this excellent story to other reviewers as a must read. Keep on writing with heart, my good friend. Love ya...Melissa.

I have a small part of Creek Indian in me. I wish the white man had not destroyed the Native Americans. Their culture, religion and beliefs are things we should have cherished and saved.. not destroy.

That's wonderful William. I am extra happy to 'know' you now! I agree, our government tho, continues this behavior, but it more subtle ways these days. Sad. Thank you for a most welcomed review...susan
