Susan, this is a well written, but sad story. Lovely descriptions, but I sense the fallen tree, greedily engulfed is how you are feeling. When this happened I was down at the cabin that was where my mom grew up, we were along the river, and I don't remember, but might have been hunting mushrooms.? I don't know. Have you read Rick Bass short stories? He writes about character where nature becomes another one in the conflict of life. This is another wonderful example of how you are able to draw from this writing well, and at time so deep we will get lost in your words. Stan
