hiya, this was a great article, this story was a big thing where i live in the uk, and the university next to me is the leading researcher into what goes on detecting what smells are emitted, they do have a basic prototype but it still a long way off from being a device used to detect cancer.
you did this story proud, welldone x

I thought I'd just give you a shout out on this one to let you know that I am here reading a bit.
This is a great piece and I see your research in your ANs.
My dogs know when I am not feeling well and behave accordingly. When I am playful, they are. Sad, they are.
So why not,if they can find disaster survivors why not cancer?
They truly are 'man's best friend.'
FYI--- I see perfectly well, but did like the big print.

Hi, barking dog. I'm very glad you mentioned your opinion on the print. I do think, in retrospect, that maybe a bit smaller would work better. Thanks so much for checking out my 'stuff'. I think we have a lot in common! Glad to hear you have the pleasure of owning dogs - I'm not able to at this time. So, I write about them LOL, but it's not the same. Take care, my friend. And thanks so much for your attention and generosity.
    Warm regards, Bev

A tad smaller print would be perfect. BD

Brilliant! I saw something on TV about this sometime ago.

"Imagine the mounting excitement as it picked up the scent of everything you did plus hints of oregano and basil, the smell of the hands that rolled the dough and placed the fillings on top, odors of the oven it was baked in; and if it was transported to your home, the sweat and nasty car smells of the poorly-paid delivery boy."

Great paragraph! Animals are not given enough credit, in my humble opinion.

What a wonderful story shared. Dogs are wonderful pets, and these are wonderful stories. I so miss our dalmation; he was a very sympathetic animal, very protective of us, and lost his life to another dog's attack.

Hi, Terry. I so appreciate your warm and generous review, and I am sorry to hear about her dear pet. Dalmation owners are some of the most loyal owners I know - something very special about that breed I think. Blessings, Bev

Great article. Interesting, informative and even a touch humorous at the beginning. If you haven't submitted this to some sort of pet owners magazine or something along those lines I would suggest you do, you might be able to make a quick buck off of it provided you can cite all of your sources for the statistics you mention (not just the 60 minutes and science netlinks but like, what studies did those come from/who did they interview).

I might suggest you read some old Erma Bombeck articles if you aren't familiar with her. She has a wonderful way of finding humor in light hearted, everyday situations and a little bit more of that in your article might give it additional literary dimension that I don't think you utilized to the extent you could have.

Hi, Artiesandbaggs. Thanks for your excellent suggestions. I appreciate your insights into possible scenarios for the essay. Yes, I would have to be much more thorough with a submitted article - did a fair share of those in college! Actually, in my portfolio is a poem in honor of Erma Bombeck. She was an amazing lady - sort of a modern-day Mark Twain. I am interested in your perspective on the amount of humor included. I was thinking that the subject was a serious one and deserved to be treated that way - but it was a shift from the initial paragraphs. So, I do see what you are talking about. When writing for the site and the public sector these days you have to be able to pull folks in with something besides dry facts. I don't like that kind of manipulation, but understand that it is what the market often demands. Sure appreciate your awesome review and generous rating. Warm regards, Bev

This is a wonderful story and very well written. They truly are mans best friend. It is amazing that dogs can smell so much more than us. I enjoyed reading your story and thought it was very interesting.

This write is so interesting. I have not heard about dogs detecting cancers with their keen sense of smell, but it doesn't surprise me if they can. It's really amazing. This was a most enjoyable read. The font is a little large though. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful information :) Lise

A good job in writing this story, My wet highland terrier has always a nose for tit bits you leave on your plate. But I have not seen any signs of being clever as your dogs in the story. A brilliant write. Thanks for sharing with me.
