Hullo Aussie ...

In this writing, you have given us a glimpse of past and present - in Sydney! There must be so many wonderful stories passed down from one generation to the next about the opening up of Australia and such stories I find most interesting.
Thank you for sharing this with us. I enjoyed it and compliment you on the lovely picture at the top.
Love from ... Nanette Mary.

Compelling and hardy story of old Sydney town, it's
legendary past, colorfully alive with bawdy tales
of toothless sailors and bawdy barmaids; and the full
sound and flavor of an old sea town with it's haunting
tales of shipwrecks and sailor's never coming home.
Terrific story poem entry! Thanks for sharing!!!

I think this is a marvelous poem and great contest entry. What stirring images you evoke here for a time in history so many still find strangely romantic. Life wasn't easy, but we choose to ignore that, particularly as tourists. I think this is an excellent contest entry and wish you luck with it...Bev

I loved the art work and the words written about Australia my country. We have grown into a great country for your and old.My relatives came out from Ireland in the 1814.
They owned so much land, and spent the money fast on beer.

I feel the early days for the white man was tough shaping the landscape, they loved their beer more those days ,as they do today.

The Aborigines are the real owners of Our Land.

Hello Honey tree, thanks so much for your kind review; yes, we have much history to share with the world. And yes, Aussies love their beer! Cheers, Kay. PS: I have written a lot on the first Australians - my grandmother was Aboriginal.)

Nice. Great imagery. A bit of fun...a bit of sad longing for simpler days maybe? There's something about Sydney...and Australia for that matter....always wanted to visit. If only i were rich & had free time (both seem to escape me). :D very nice.

Your author notes are superb-you have good imagery and a good flow with your poem-you are descriptive and write about how the Australians drink and have fun--I love where you write(Drinking to 'blackbirding' and whaling-They raise their pottery cups to eternity) what a powerful statement about how Aussie's enjoy life and their culture--well done.

Chita, Thanks my friend; Aussies are known for being big beer drinkers. I guess it is the climate - so hot here. Cheers, Kay.

Thanks for the peek inside your Sydney and the goings on at the pub. It makes for an enjoyable read and you make the reader 'see' the pub and it's attendants clearly. Verty well done with a good rhyming scheme.

The best of luck in the contest. Your story/poem was cleverly written and enlightening. I don't know much of your history, but this is fascinating. I loved the way you made the ghosts of the past come alive. I really enjoyed reading your entry.
