Hey kiwigirl, can't wait to read this to my grandchildren, such a beautiful story and what a new concept--a purple ape, children would love this crazy. Any publisher in contact, if not, I am sure there is one coming soon. Marvellous. Thanks.

Prince Alastair tried a bagpipe and kilt saying purple was a royal color and bag pipes were fun to play.

Jings Bonny Lass loved the fantasy but a gorilla in a skirt????
The Auld Yin.

Well I am liking this one. It has a good flow and the dialogue works nicely. Good job with all the imagery. You also have done well with keeping it simple for the kids :-)~

I enjoyed reading your imaginary tale of this young purple ape. I particularly liked his attempts at disguise. This was well written and entertaining. I look forward to the next installment. Blessings, hector

This is a delightful and fun children's story. Great descriptions, clever twist (a purple ape) and all the problems the poor little prince is having dealing with being different. I look forward to the next installment. I didn't see any spages (but remember I am the worst proofreader on this sight) and definitely didn't find anything that needed to be changed or improved.

There has to be cos I want to know the rest of the story! LOL :) Great first installment for this children's tale, like the theme of 'being different' as it's a huge issue these days to be different in any way and kids need to understand it's ok to not be 'the norm.'

Looking forward to the next installment :)

kiwigirl,
your cute story titled The Grape Ape Who Would Be King is very written an enjoyable read. Your story paints a picture in the readers head. Excellent narrative, great dialogue and very good descriptive writing. You managed to established a setting, conflict, and a resolution to your story. I enjoyed your descriptions in this paragraph: "Valley of Trees is a place of fantasy animals, fairies, trolls, butterflies, birds and all manner of dreams; but, the finest thing of all is trees! Big trees, tall trees, little trees, fat trees, skinny trees, new trees, old trees, trees, trees, trees as far as your eyes can see." I look forward to reading more in this story.
Melissa.

I think this is a good children's story and is well put together. The problem is, it doesn't fit reality. In reality, in an actual lab experiment, the scientists separated a young monkey from his peers. This monkey was not remarkable in any way, and fit into the group in a normal fashion.

The scientists painted the monkey green, and put him back in with his peers. The other monkeys killed him.

There are a lot of `triumph over adversity' stories in this regard. The truth is, green monkeys don't catch a break in society. Their attitude toward themselves is the only thing that lifts them up from the muck and lets them succeed.

This is a great read - one of those stories that adults can read aloud to their kids - and also enjoy themselves.
I'll be intrigued to see where you are taking this? Issac Asimov wrote a book called I Robot, where the robots were actually metaphors for ethnic minorities. His boss, a bigot, didn't realize what he'd done.
Will there be some profound message hidden in this story? Can't wait for the next part!
