This is hysterical! I really enjoyed the irony
in this one. What a great job you did and what
a fabulous entry in the contest.
I love senryu and you really know your stuff.
Nothing could have said it all in so few words.
Keep writing. It's fun to read you.
Regards, Marie

This is horribly funny. I believe that's the laymen's term for an incredible haiku, no? Coupled with the title and image, it makes for strong political commentary, especially with the background history of the 2008 midterm elections.

Hillary Clinton, despite her popularity a year out from midterms, took a slide as Barack Obama came onto the seen. Fresh and amiable, he eventually forced the stiffer, less personable Clinton to take a back seat, to falter and fall in the election.

Hillary Clinton in the waning days of her election went to vicious attack ads (as all politicians in their death throes do), but she couldn't tarnish the clean-cut Obama.

After such tactics, when the metaphorical time for Obama to approach the fallen Clinton arrived, he certainly wouldn't consider himself 'friends' with Clinton. The ironic statement, "I'll find one for you." completely and utterly slaps the funny bone as one would expect a friend to extend the comment in the first line, and the final line notes that it may be difficult to even find a friend.

This is senryu at its finest.

Thanks for the well wishes! Oddly enough, I voted for your work. I thought that it was incredibly ironic and so much in tune with the season.

We didn't vote for this one, did we? This was the contest committee pick. Now, my senryu yesterday won in the daily prompt thang..lol Anyway, chance to say congrats again, a nod from the committee in the ethers!

Congratulations on your post yesterday! Had to chuckle at that one. I leave my flannel p.j.'s on and don't care if the light is on or off!

Bravo! Boy,I loved it! Sometimes I find that limitation in syllables and lines helps to produce sharper and more precise wording. Very funny, too! -Julia

A great senryu...
With a great message...
Especially love the last two lines....
And also, so you had a fall...
Like it's no big deal...(in politics)..

The usual roller coaster cycle of elections in the states... no one is ever satisfied and expect instant gratifications as if they are watching Saturday morning cartoons. Ray aka krylon

Ray - I love the analogy of cartoons. Sometimes I think I would like to resort to the old time violence in some of the oldies! Regards, Bill

Very clever - the irony and the good use of this type of poem. It looks like you are learning a great deal about poetry. I haven't branched out yet, but you set a good example.

Kind regards
Mel

Thank you very much Mel. Oddly enough, I enjoy the short poems like this because they force you to focus on words, the placement of words and nuance. I'll never be a poet, but do enjoy. If you are ever bored and have two minutes to spare, my favorite post was about my daughter is called "The Sounds of Time". Warm regards, Bill

Hi, Bill. I think you're selling yourself short. The very fact that you can produce a great peom makes you a poet in my eyes. I'll read the one about your daughter. Best Wishes, Mel

As I look at your picture I can almost spot the tongue in cheek. I love it. It's too bad we have come to this but as they say we are only human. I read some of the comments and especially liked Barbara's about voting for her cat. I think she was the one that voted for her cat.

I didn't know you could vote for yourself. So, you only came in third. Too bad. Good luck with the contest. ann
