Hi Kimbob,
This is a wonderfully rhymed and smoothly metered poem. You never think of a dragon have a great singing voice only the roar. I like the shouty capitals and spreading of the word roar to show its loudness
and prolonged maybe echoing sound. I like how nature stops to enjoy it and can't wait until the next song. Just like we enjoy sunsets and night sounds over and over.
You can guess I love the picture from my screen name.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a great weekend.
Joan

    Hi Joan,
I'd like to say that I wrote it just for you, my dear... but I didn't know you then (2010). It's a fantasy poem, though there are sea monsters in southern New Brunswick... Old Ned, Old Tom, the Ug Wug, and Jipijka'm, the Mi'kmaq horned serpent.
Thanks for your kind review, and the gift of shiny stars!
    Hugs,

This poem, The Dragon of Dark Harbor, presented with eleven ABAB-rhymed quatrains, tells a broad tale of the visiting serpent and the pecking order that its presence creates as it throats its song.

How are you folks doing now?

What a super poem. The rhyme is excellent and the metre smooth and flowing, and there is a great story in there. You described it all very vividly - quite captivating. Very well done.

Dolly, once again you have excelled. What a great story. And written so delightfully in smooth-flowing and rhyming verse. Your mastery of the poetic form amazes me. Once you were my second favourite Dolly, behind miss Parton, of course. Today, you just may have surpassed her.

    Hi Bob,
Thanks so much for your kind review, the encouragement, and so many shiny stars! I'm pleased that you enjoyed it. However, I'm not Dolly (Christine Burrows), the Queen of Sonnets. Its easy to make the mistake when replying to a crowd of reviewers.
    Have a great day!
(By the way, I'm sorry for the late response, but I injured my lower back around March 3rd. It's still aching, and I can't sit in the computer chair for very long.)
    Cheers,

Kimbob, what an awesome epic about this dragon! Is it based on local lore? A cousin to Nessie perhaps? Poetically it's very beautiful, with the rhyme settling into storytelling mode that is very captivating. So glad you resurrected this, so your new fans can enjoy it! Julie

    Hi Julie,
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Sorry for being so late in replying, but my lower back is still causing me some pain.
We do have a few sea monsters in the area... I wrote about one that lives under the Reversing Falls in Saint John, "Never Bug the Ug Wug". There's also folk lore about Old Ned, Old Tom, and Jipijka?m. Once, I saw a monster in the Saint John River near the Evandale ferry crossing. It was swimming right up the middle of the river, ripples of water far behind it. I'm guessing it was pretty long, as we could see its back jutting out of the water in some places. Perhaps it was just a huge sturgeon. They have been known to grow up to 12 feet long. But the largest sturgeon ever caught was in the Volga Delta in 1827, measuring 23 feet 7 inches long, and weighing 3,463 pounds! The Volga River is in Russia, and empties into the Caspian Sea.
Thanks for the kind and encouraging review, and gift of stars! I'm thinking of resurrecting a few more of my poems from when I joined Fanstory back in 2010. Watch for them!
    Hugs,
    Kimbob

    Hey Kimbob, you're back :-)
I wondered where you were. I'm sorry you've been dealing with back pain. Boy do I understand that (been there, done that, had a surgery for it).
How fascinating all the crypto creatures near you! I'd love to see something like that. When I took a boat ride on Loch Ness a ways back, I kept my eyes peeled, but nothing... My grandfather was on a team with some explorers in the Arctic (he was the token geologist collecting rock samples) he swears they saw a Yeti. Something huge, all white, striding away from them in an area where no one lived for hundreds of miles. I think our planet is filled with mysteries and I want to know about them! Good to see you again!
    :-)

Why don't you write a piece about that??? It would be so interesting! /Kimbob

Virtual six! I enjoyed this tale very much and you hit upon the right rhyme scheme and words to tell it. Thank you for re-posting! Your images are very striking. Do you have any other works on Grand Manon Island?

    Hi Jim,
No, this is my only poem about Grand Manan. I heard about Dark Harbor from a girl whose mother lived there by herself. Although we do have some sea monsters in southern New Brunswick (the Ug Wug, Old Tom, Old Ned, and Jipijka?m), my poem is strictly fantasy.
I'll take that virtual sixer, though! Thanks very much, also for your kind review!

How delightful a dragon story! And wow, you were here in 2010? You started here way before me! I liked the drama that you built up only to surprise us with a beautiful melody after the ROAR!

Good Morning, Helen! How are you?
Yes, I joined Fanstory in June of 2010, a retirement gift to myself. My last day at Moosehead was June 30th, and I was almost sobbing as I crossed the street for the last time. I spent half my life there... 38 years full-time, but even more counting my time as a student. I started there in late June of 1969 after graduation from Saint John High School. Then I started at UNBSJ, in the Business Administration program, that fall.
Most of my poems back in 2010 were overlooked, with only a few reviews. I probably didn't promote them enough. I am thinking of pulling some of them out this year to see if they can capture enough reviews for "Recognized" or "All Time Best". "The Dragon of Dark Harbor" has always been one of my favorite poems. But you'll see some more of my little gems in the near future.
Thanks for stopping by with a kind review, and gift of stars! And also, for pumping up this poem as you've done for so much of my poetry the last couple of years!
    Hugs,
    Kimbob

I like this narrative my friend, I was just wondering at the identity of the dragon, although it's not important to this most enjoyable treatise of poetic flow and flavour. Written in abab rhyme, and smooth flowing literary utterance, well done, blessings Roy

    Hi Roy,
This poem is strictly fantasy. I wrote it back in 2010. But there is an old orca that makes an appearance once in a while near Grand Manan. They call him "Old Tom". As far as sea monsters go, there is the Ug Wug who lives below the Reversing Falls in Saint John. I wrote a poem about him called "Never Bug The Ug Wug". And in Charlotte County of my province (New Brunswick), there is "Old Ned". He is a sea monster that goes back into the 1700s, but still seen today in Lake Utopia.
Thanks for your kind review, and the gift of stars!
    Blessings,

    Hi Diane,
Still a lot of pain in my lower back. I can't sit in this chair very long, but I had to thank my reviewers before the month is up. I've slid from #86 to #105 in the Reviewer ranks, and from #43 to #61 in Poets. I haven't written anything new this whole month. But it didn't stop me from going to church. And I've walked the Grand Bay Trail 3 times. "When the going gets tough, the tough get going!" LOL.
    Have a great day!
    Hugs,

    Good heavens!
Don't worry about the rankings; once you feel better, you and your muse can polka!

Off to go swimming with my two little grandsons! Always an adventure!
