I really enjoyed your poem! To recognize your mother in your image is a natural thing for others to see when they look at us but not so much for our own observations. Many times we don't like being told we look like our mother. This was refreshing and inspiring. The love for your mother was felt throughout this poem! Great job!

Oh Jude, what an exceptional poem you have penned here and free verse at that. I have a hard time penning one for my mother and maybe that is because she is still with me. Hard to put feelings into words for how special they can be but you have done a magnificent job. I think of my own mom and how she is a writer as well and how much we are alike and you've said my own mind in so many of your lines here. Beautiful, hon, just beautiful. This had better win because it's the best I've read so far.

This brought tears to my eyes, Jude, for both my thoughts of my mother that died at 58 and myself as a mother and leaving a part of myself behind. This is exceptional in the beautiful flow, emotions it draws from the reader and because of one part that will linger in my mind: 'you held the sun, carried stars in your pocket and shared your light for all to see.' Absolutely brilliant and such simplicity. Love it and a beautiful tribute to your mother, who you have become, and to making Mother's Day even more special with your lingering poetic creativity. This brought tears to my eyes. Actually did an exercise once where you were to stare into your own eyes in the mirror and one lady couldn't do it because she kept seeing her mother - your poem reminded me of this. Beautifully written!

Jude, what can I say, this is phenomenal writing! There is such a maturity and grace about this poem. I honestly think this is the best poem I have read of yours, at least this is my favorite so far! What impresses me here is the way you weave the picture of your mother by weaving a mirror image of the things you inherited from her! Quite nicely done. I don't think this has a chance of winning the contest and that is a compliment because I have little faith in the "committee" picking the best poem to win, even though I placed second today!! Great Job and a well deserved six!
