What a beautiful and fanciful poem. i love the flow and the imagery is grand. Though I know it's not 100% by the word and you are using poetic liscence. I just can't get the image of a beautiful wedding dress trimmed in..blah.. orange lace..lol..

nicely done, with names given to flowers

it kind of reminds of (and i hope you not think it weird of me to associate this with beautiful flowers)of names of drinks that are served in a bar. there are some unusual drink names, which makes for interesting conversation topics, as does your poem.

I actually also thought of the names of drinks when I was thinking what else has creative names like flowers do - I don't know many of them as I don't actually drink, but I've heard some of the weird names in movies and stuff - like sex on the beach. Race horses also have had great names over the years. Thanks, Steve. Brooke :-)

that's comical because I too thought of that drinks' name as well, the only one that popped into my head lol
    great minds think alike lol

Your poem about heirloom flowers is a delight. I love history. Especially personal histories, where we get down to what our grandmother's and grandfather's cultivated in their gardens and scented their sachets with. The names, are so simple, and yet they conjure the dreams of yesterday. I'm so glad you explored this little path by the side of the lane. I must put some of the names into my book that I am writing about my grandmother's life, growing up on the prairies.

Going there shortly. Got to finish doing reviews on my favourite poets - Then, hopefully, some time for me to do a bit of research and writing. I seem to never find the time anymore. Rose.

When my heah finally gives up on what used to be a nest for golden locks I am thinking about wearing a heirloom. There are a lot of different styles to chose from. Short, long or inbetween. Or maybe I'll just shave my head and be in style, if square is a style. Thanks for sharing your flower story, I'm not sure what it has to do with hair looms. Mike

This is utterly incredible. Ingenious. Perfect!! I think it is absolutely insane that you researched the names of a flower and was able to intertwine them into an understandable, sweet, adorable poem. Amazing!

Again, a beautiful story-and the way you used the heirloom names was wonderful!! They are very interesting names, I may just have to look them up myself to satisfy my curiosity:)
This was absolutely beautiful. I on;y wish that I was the girl in the story:)

I will bet that there are many brides who will choose to use this wonderful poem in some fashion in their wedding plans. Very creative integration of heirloom flower names into a story of marriage. And, great picture to accompany the words. Sue

hey brooke,

how neat!! what a truly unique poem with all the old-fashioned flower names. though i wouldn't particularly care for orange sherbert lace! lol

one suggestion: "if we only can tie the knot."
might it sound better if it were: "if we can only tie the knot."

and once again you've given us terrific information. thanks so much for sharing all this with us!

smiles,

deb
