You have been doing this a while so I'm sure you have had a couple bad reviews. I wouldn't call this a bad review, just a bad reviewer, but I just didn't get it. I think some one died but then I'm trying to fit it in with raising a child. I see lots of people like your work and I read some of your other poems and can see why. So you will have to ignore or forgive me. Your entry is well writen.

The prodigal child is a parable in the Bible. The son left home with his inheritance, squandered it, returned home to his father.. He was expecting to be chastised, but instead, his father welcomed him with a new robe, killed the fatted calf, had a party, etc.
This is about the child who hasn't returned yet, and how the parents are coping ... or not... with his loss.

This is a side of having children that is seldom considered, that perhaps they never really were yours to keep to begin with in a sense. The details are stunning here: "burned and gray," "littered," "ink dried in the mottled blue bottle" and so on.

Children can be the blessings of their parent's lives, or they can be the ultimate sorrow. Your poem depicts the latter with poetic, heartfelt, disappointed love. So this very deep, skye. In fact I had to read it three time to actully grasp it all. The child comes back, but too late, I think. Very intense with wonderful descriptions and very emotional. Since this is free verse I felt it could have been less structured in presentation for better affect, but just my thought. Very nicely done. Joyce
