For them to all sit there and lie to a doctor, not the cops, but a doctor assigned to help you, that is just the last straw for me - that is beyond outrageous - that is just the worst thing I've ever heard. I doubt doctors often tell patients to completely break off relationships with a family - it has to be pretty damned bad for that!!! Another excellent chapter with great detail and dialogue. Brooke

Thanks for your kind and encouraging review. Yes, it was unusual for a doctor to say that, but he was furious with my family, and he was right.

Another excellent chapter, you explained everything in very good detail. This is one of the best so far. Good luck on the next one.

Great Chapter.

In the "Valerie has been" paragraph, neat the end you need to get rid of the I after the we in "we I don't care."

Also in the third paragraph from the end, last sentence: "I doubt they would never do that." Should be ever, not never.

The story is gripping and quite complex. I enjoyed reading it. - Thesis

This is an excellent chapter. I can very much relate to what the young woman is going through. I have never been abused but have spent some time inside a hospital. I think your insight into her feelings is very well written. This to me appeared to come from someone who had lived through something like this or had really done their homework. Very well done - Sam

Personal experience is my guide to this story. Writing my autobiograpahy, warts and all, was a difficult decision but I felt it was important and necessary. Thank you for your kind review, I sincerely appreciate it.

once again a brave and excellant chapter. I could relate so much to this stuff. I have a dissociative disorder and have been diagnosed with both PTSD and BPD - although what they call BPD symptoms were created by being in an acute psychiatric ward and the worst PTSD symptoms I have now are the result of psychiatric abuse, neglect and treatment. I admire what you are doing to raise awareness of the complex difficulties experienced by survivours of trauma. Whilst reading your book takes me back, I'm amazed to discover that I do not find it triggering in anyway, like I might have done in the past.

I am so pleased that reading my book does not trigger the past memories. I have found many readers who have experienced abuse find my book a little to close to home. I completely understand their reaction. My intent is to open the eyes of the people who are not aware of the trauma abuse, whatever the cause, can do to a person, espeically a child. The subject of psychiatric abuse could be a book of its own. Thak you for the kind review and encouraging comments.

Smurphgirl - A very moving story with a very strong character and great dialogue. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline in this chapter.

Here are some suggestions:

Life on a psychiatric ward is fascinating and( )very well organized;

I responded with an emphatic, "NO(.") - periods go within the quotes.

I only relented after Dr. P made it very clear the test( was) not an option.

Talking in detail about what my father had done to me was something I had always avoided, and( )Dr. P's question made me feel like someone had just ripped a scab off a deep, painful wound.

Filled with terror I replied, "I don't think I can do this."

My throat was dry(,) and I could feel my body tremble as I sat down.

"Valerie, I wish I could tell you to forget what happened today(,) but I know that is impossible," Marilyn said.

I doubt they will (ever) do that."

(My) soft whimpering quickly became loud sobs making it difficult to breath.

Charlie

I only relented after Dr. P made it very clear the test not an option--there's something missing in this sentence.

I remember bits and snatches of your story from before. This is very interesting. I agree with you about IQ tests, too, even though I usually do very well on them. I wish you great success with your book. Best wishes. Ray.
