Jan, may God smile on you and bring Christopher to your door. Every child needs to know he's loved as you love this precious child. My prayers are with you.

Hugs,

Maggie

All I can say is your story brought me to tears. My grandaughter was adopted at birth by my son, and her mother left a note with the doctor that if Georgett ever wanted to know her, to give the address to her. After Georgett was about 20, she decided to locate her biological mother. The state refused to help her-(It was a closed adoption state) but I remembered the doctors name- at first he refused, but after thinking about it, he called his wife and said to check his files. When he did, there was the letter. Georgett was reunited and found she has a younger brother, sister and a grandmother and aunt she adores.

I thought you did a wonderful job of writing a very personal and heartfelt letter. I am adopted and I met not only my biological mother but 5 other siblings. It was extremely emotional but I felt no emotional connection to my mother as I was raised by a wonderful woman who, to me, was (she is deceased) my only mother. If you are really interested in locating Christopher, have you considered getting ahold of the Locator? I saw him on Dr. Phil and he has a website, I'm sure. Any way, best of luck and your writing was very nice. Thank you for sharing.
Judy

You raise, as you often do, both ethical and spiritual questions. There are no suggestions for revision here as this is clearly written from a heartfelt position. This is part of our challenge, Jan, and you have written it well. Constant is the struggle of heart.

This is, as you say, a deeply personal piece of writing. A piece written from the heart. I can't see where there is any room for improvement. I wish you luck in your search. ladybird.

Very personal, well written, sounds about right to me.
I think a letter like this is impossible to critique, because of the very nature of it.
Your thoughts are full of love and concern, so they are good.
Very well done.

Heart thumping, I asked, "What about Christopher? He's still your son. Now he is eighteen, are you going to try and find him?" Several times after your birth, I found her sitting on the front porch of our parent's house, crying because she missed you so much.
I would seperate this after...find him?" skip a line...Several times...

This is very sweet, but your sister would probably kill you. This is her business. If he is interested, he will find a way to find her. That's just my opinion. I hope it's not to harsh.
love you kiddo.
hugs
Heidi

Thanks, Heidi. I appreciate your comments, but I'll have to disagree all the same. I live 10,000 miles away from my sister, and Christopher is still my nephew, even if she refuses to claim him as her son. She will not allow him to contact her in any way. But I want him to know his extended family does not share her feelings.
I will skip a few lines where you suggested. :-)
    Thanks!

Your longing and concern are evident in this story.

I have an adopted neice who was so interested in finding her biological mother (and did) and an adopted nephew who has no desire whatsoever. Anytime anyone asks him about the subject, his reply is always "My parents raised me." His adoption was via an attorney so the information is readily available, but he just is not interested. One of my grandsons is also adopted. He's 17 now. I wrote his story here on fanstory --A Stroke of Luck. While he is very open about the adoption, knows his original last name and some of his mother's history, he has no interest (at this time, at least) in making any connection.

I can't imagine not knowing everything there is to know about who I am, but apparently there are those who know all they feel is important. Perhaps your sister used the letter to tell her son that she loved him and hoped she was making the right decision. Perhaps, he clings to that knowledge and loves her for the sacrifice she made in hopes of giving him a life she couldn't--for whatever reasons, whether emotional, financial, real or imagined.

Janilou, I pray for your peace about this subject. Good writing with only a couple of spag issues. Enjoyed the read. ann

Thanks! I will take a look at those issues. :-) Good suggestions. In many ways, I hope Christopher is perfectly happy not searching or knowing, but the thought that he isn't. . . makes me want to find him.
    Thanks again,
