A Six, if I had one, would barely do justice to this superb and aptly illustrated Dialog Poem of an imaginary conversation between an American prisoner of war, who eventually died at the hands of his Japanese captors, and a second-generation Japanese-American citizen unjustly imprisoned under President Franklin Roosevelt's Executive Order 9066, both during World War II. In a different reality, they could have been friends -- both respectful of nature's beauty, both loyal American citizens, and both ultimately forgiving. This post ought to be published.

    Hello WalkerMan,
This offering was my first attempt at a Dialog Poem. I hope to have it published someday. Thank you for your kind review and unearthing my offering...

Dear KT, I was just reading your bio, and "I heard America Call My Name" intrigued me. I just finished it--with a tear in my eye and goosebumps. Wow!

I know this review is late in coming. However, I just came across this today after I reading your latest contest entry Time and Again. This particularly resonated with me. I was seven years old when that war ended. I lost two uncles. My father an Annapolis graduate who remand in the Nay until he retired in 1965 came home a changed and rather hollow man.

Very beautifully done,
Richard

Mrs. KT,
This is an outstanding piece told in a powerful manner.
It is not maudlin, but factual, and blunt. Your choice of
style was excellent, because it allowed you to write a story in a concise form.
Fondly, Lyle

You have used the required words for the contest.

Your poem compares the life of a POW of Japan and the Japanese prisoners of America. Both situations are tragic. America should have been more compassionate. But most of the Japanese prisoners lived to complain about it. Many of the American prisoners didn't live to complain about it.

Thank you for stopping by. Both prisoners in my offering were Americans. Both loved their country and were loyal to it. Both suffered needlessly. Such is the result of man's incessant need to war with his fellow man. Be Well...diane

Wow! What a stunning history lesson of two lives given for the land that they loved. The Japanese were cruel to thier prisoners and the Amercian government was cruel to their Japanese citizens. Excellent use of the contest words. This is a winner. Blessings to you, Linda

Absolutely excellent. This is a wonderful expression of history, of patriotism, of learning those lessons we must never forget, so that history will not be repeated forever, in its worst errors.
I appreciate your diligence in searching for this history, and relating it to your readers in such an exquisitely tender manner.
Well done.

This is an exceptional piece of work. I had never seen a dialogue poem before, I like this style and will have to try it sometime. The amount of research and effort that went into this poem is amazing and to be applauded. You honor them and preserve their memory with this beautiful offering. Good luck in this contest. I can't imagine what else would possibly stand a chance against this poem. :)

Hello Dovey! Thank you so much for your thoughtful and exceptional review. The research for the American soldier wasn't difficultl; it is based upon the life of my uncle, Sargeant William Kenel, but I did have to research about the Nisei just to be sure the facts were correct. Thank you again! diane

the internment camps were the thorn in our sould and we kept as low profile as possibe. A black eye for the American people. one that we will continue try to find an apology and never happening again...thanks so much yours, diana
