I am giving you five stars, not because I give them freely, but because you deserve it. I nearly got ol' Webster out to verify some of the definitions after reading, but you have so kindly offered the definitions in your notes. This is a great piece. I have never seen this style of poetry. You definately rocked the style.

This a great topical piece written in what seems
an impossible format to convey what you have
so succinctly described. Oh, the horror! Nice
work. Yours, Fish

Hi Alvin. This is a very well written piece of poetry in abecedarian style. You have described the war in Iraq very well. Good luck

This is an amazing creation. Using the letters of the alphabet (in order) to create a commentary of the sadness of war takes true love of words and talent. Your poem reflects the feelings of so many of us. The Iraqi war is a travesty. This is a masterpiece. Best of luck in the contest. Blessings, Linda

This is excellent. I can't imagine how much work must go into your abc poems and have them still make this much sense. And I agree with your sentiment wholeheartedly. You get one of my sixers for this.

Nice job, my friend - I haven't heard of this form before, but there are so many, I could never keep count. Must've been tough, especially the X and Z, but you seem to have a strong lexicon.

Thanks for sharing!

Makes sense to me. I thought this was an intelligent societal commentary poetically formatted into something that reads so pretty. Well done.

Thank you very much. It is not easy to make abecedarians flow well, and I thank you for noticing that.

Hello Alvin,

Six stars, my friend. I learned a few things here ...

I didn't realize that in abcedarian-style poetry you could have the words follow each other vs. a new letter starts the beginning of each line (did you understand that?!). Also, before I got to your author's notes, I looked up two words and then laughed to find the definitions on the bottom. I realize most will not look up words. The two words that I looked up were:

xenophobic AND zeitgeist
(WOW ... Excellent word use and imagery once one looks up the words.)

This poem reads and flows extremely well. I particularly liked the following line:

xenophobic yearlong zeitgeist
(MY FAVORITE)

This was a pleasure to read. Keep writing. I like the "brainy" side of your writing.

Regards, LateBloomer

Thanks. You made me feel really good. And you don't know how long it took me to come up with the X, Y, and Z lines. Yes, the only way to write a syntactically correct abecedarian is to break up the lines sometimes.
