Hello,
I am a little upset and want to express it. I need to ask my fellow writers a question. If I write a story and have it half-owned by the illustrator does that give him the right to change past stories in a video? I'm just wondering. Thank you.
Nome

Goodness, I don't know, but I wouldn't think so. He's the illustrator, not the author.

Thank you, Damommy, I sent him a message about how I feel. Now I'm waiting to post more stories until I hear from him. I looked up the copyright laws -- looks like I'm in the right.
:) Maybe he just doesn't know.

I would rethink my agreement [contract?] with this
individual. Something's not right. If he is the
illustrator why does he own 1/2 of anything. Isn't
the contract for illustrator all should concern him?

It's only a verbal agreement; we came up with this together. He created what the character's look like and I create the stories. It's mutual, but I don't change his images.

Verbal agreement? Sounds like there could be issues in the long run.

An agreement is an agreement. However, your words are YOUR words and their artwork is THEIR'S unless you have given each other authority to alter each other's work. Elton John and Bernie Taupin write songs together, Taupin-words, John-Music, they each own their contribution and one can't alter the other without permission from the other. Your partner has no right to touch your words without your permission.

How strong would a verbal agreement be in a court of law?

I googled oral agreements. You can copy and paste this link into your browser. What I found was that's difficult to prove an oral agreement.

A book by our own Alec Gould.

One man's take on life told thru humorous short stories from his childhood on into his mid-50's; from feeling like an outcast in school to being an adult. His intent: hope. The 23rd Annual Book Awards said:
"We Really Need To Laugh" shares “memories which will resonate with many readers. Overall a creative presentation of the author’s life given in a rather sing-song poetic story telling style; a pleasant read"
