Writer's Notebook

Thread Started October 30 at 8:14AM

Just a question out of curiosity; how many folks keep a writer's notebook? Not just the random pieces of paper we all have somewhere - but an honest to goodness notebook where we keep all of our story ideas, random phrases, and keen observations?

I have my journals and those random pieces of paper, but I've never developed a true 'one place for everything.'

And you?

I have a notebook that goes everywhere with me, but when I'm at home I use the laptop... this is easier as I am dyslexic and helps me organise things more.

I keep a black leather bound notebook of phrases, ideas, thoughts...and I highlight those I've already used. This way, when I have a poem in mind, I can search for thoughts, phrases that might make it sparkle.I'm all about the bling. (smile)

Thank you! Perhaps I need to start carrying a notepad of some sort in my purse. This weekend, I was coming up with all kinds of stories, and then when I got home in front of my laptop, I could only remember bits and pieces.

I used to have notebooks, still do. They're all on a shelf gathering dust. I put everything into Fanstory now, the perfect organizer. :))

I write all my poetry in my journal/notebook first before typing it up. Stories though, I type on the computer.

I'm terrible. I buy notebooks and almost never use them. Once, I was standing in line at a bank when a lady's toddler had a temper tantrum. I made notes on how the child and mother looked and acted, but now I don't know where the notes are.

So now I write notes only at my desk, and then I post the notes to stories under development in Scrivener. Several writing programs allow you to keep story ideas, notes, etc.

I did start a notebook of phrases, and that still exists on paper. I also collect phrase books. Will PM anyone who asks about my phrase book library.

Thank you to all of you. I am great about getting things in my computer when I'm home. But, the fleeting thoughts that come and go while I'm out and about tend to get lost.

But...happily, I can report my hubby saved the day when he remembered exactly what we were talking about when the idea came to mind. It will be a plot twist in my new novel for NaNoWriMo.

I have different colored spiral notebooks, and each has poem ideas, especially for different poetry forms...sometimes its just a line, or phrase that come to me, it works for me, otherwise I think I'd be lost...especially as I grown older lol...

I use a basic, black, spiral bound notebook to keep ideas in, and for early drafts of poems. Nothing fancy. They cost me a couple of dollars at WalMart. But... it's a necessity I have come to need! Sad thing - both my kids have purchased lovely notebooks for me. My younger son even brought a leather-bound one home from Italy for me. I can't bring myself to using anything other than my plain-Jane notebooks!

I only write down my dreams and nightmares-- mostly nightmares--Patty.

I record everything about the dream I can recall; estimated time period, architecture, era, setting, whether I was an active participant or on the outside looking in, as well as what transpired in the dream--and so on.

I do this just as soon as the dream awakens me, as the especially bad ones do, or when I awaken first thing in the morning.
If I can remember them at all.
I have a leather bound The Walking Dead book where I keep them all for future use...
