Author Notes
Artist: Ikenaga Yasunari, contemporary Japanese painter

Senryu is a Japanese short poetic form similar to haiku but focuses on people and it doesn't require a season word (kigo). It portrays the characteristics of human beings. A common misconception about senryu, is that it is exclusively a satirical and or humorous poetic genre. There's another side of senryu, a more serious side that express the misfortunes, the hardships and woe of humanity. It goes back to the late 18th century Japan.
