The Mary Anne by Aussie
Free Verse Poetry Contest contest entry

Loaded to the gunnels, listing back and forth
Tuna trawler flounders in raging seas
A prize of tuna going home; or not
Raging seas lift and dump men and cargo

Laughing below the waves
Poseidon charges his trident
Die little boat, die for me
King of the seas lifts waves higher

Feisty little trawler heads into wall
Bows washed over, screws flailing air
Crew holding for dear life, praying
Up the mountain, down the trough

Poseidon laughs at the tiny dot
Gale picks up whipping white foam
Dawn breaks to calming day
Home, home, heading home today
