With little thought, those men would throw the dice
to win remaining spoils of those condemned.
And leering, jeering all the while, raised high the price
of clothes worn by the Man whose life was stemmed
by crook-ed courts who by their own device
would twist the words of One whom they contemned.
He suffered torture, pain, and ridicule
from ignorant ones ‘who know not what they do.’
How could the people there have been so cruel?
His cup could not be passed, and this He knew.
The hour came as had been prophesied.
The sun went from the sky, and darkness came,
the temple tore in two from side to side,
and God had turned His face away from shame.
At sepulchre, the soldiers guard the stone
ensuring no one enters there to steal
the holy corpse that lay in there alone.
The third day, angels broke the massive seal
and waited for the ones He called His own.
An angel’s task, an empty tomb reveal.
We know the Lamb of God who came to earth
was crucified and died to prove our worth.
From this, ‘the greatest story ever told,’
we know He’ll come again to take His fold.
