Tis time to shake my Irish skirt
and jig, and jig me down.
Tis time I took my fair love's hand
and danced in my wedding gown.

Tis chance we met one summer's eve,
when walking in twilight's deep gloaming.
Upon the path to County Down,
my true love upon the hills roaming.

Sweet maid where is a place to sleep,
a supper and shelter too?
I took him to Dame O'Conner's home,
to a place all the old shire knew.

He stayed a month, he stayed a year,
crafting stained glass within the kirk.
All the village brought him praise
for the cunning and beautiful work.

At year's end, on Sunday's eve,
toward sundown and end of day;
my true love came and walked with me
with heartfelt words to say.

Oh, my lass, come be with me;
consent to be my wife.
Our road that we shall walk will be
a long, blest Irish life.
