When happiness is elusive,
And no joy can be found,
When sadness overtakes me,
And leaves me feeling down.
When days go on forever,
And life’s too much to bear,
I think about the ocean,
Close my eyes, and I am there.
Salty mist fills my senses,
As I walk along the shore,
My spirit soars with the seagulls,
My soul is mine once more.
The waves come crashing in,
Then roll back out to sea,
With them go my troubles,
In this moment, I am free.
Its beauty is astounding,
The world just slips away,
Alone in God’s creation,
I’d give anything to stay.
My eyes well up with tears,
Sunshine warms my face,
Raw emotion in my heart,
When I am in this place.
Reality starts creeping in,
Life won’t let me stay,
Please! Just one more minute,
I’m not ready to be pulled away.

Author Notes
I've been visiting the ocean since I was a child. It was always a magic place for me... A place that made me feel happy and whole. Unfortunately, I only get to go to the ocean once a year, now, but my love for the sea has given me a very special connection. I close my eyes and I'm there. The world disappears, if only for a moment...
