Sonata - Forbidden Love

The haunting lilt of a flute
muffled by a fresh mist
tugs at memories of love in my youth

Life was so simple back then
my hormonal teenaged angst
heat tempered by her pretty dimpled chin

The walk to and from our school
hand in hand step by step
our serious talk now makes me sound a fool

There was no thought of future
we knew we were smarter
than mom dad preacher doctor and teacher

That was nipped so fast
caught in forbidden act
now decades later that fool not yet passed

Adagio - Real Love

We were too loud we were too drunk
you entered the club
I didn't know then but I was sunk

You went to pick up your mother
she was the cook
we paratroopers too much a bother

I asked for a dance a mambo
you dithered yes
fell into love's well we didn't know

It was more than a year we dated
with love I Do
for fifty-six years we were mated

Minuet - Lost Love

I am way off shore no anchor syncopated
Brubeck's jazz the rudder nut broken
adrift on Easter Sunday when you left

I am searching in a deep fog roaming this Orb
Pop gives no light you were my compass
but not on Easter Sunday when you left

Five decades mated a good life in harmony
Latin Beat the path we went as one
until that Easter Sunday when you left

Will it ever end senseless quest no direction
Cowboy's twanged lamentation
love lost on Easter Sunday when you left

With pen in my hand marks on pad tears a dripping
DJ is scrubbing cacophony
the sounds of Easter Sunday when you left

Intermezzo - Empty Love

Wake up I have many things to do
I wander in a dark haze
this turnstile life is one I must rue

Finale - Lasting Love

I hope I'm there on Peter's calendar
I never made a bucket list
I know that date may not be too far

There is much to do for family
great-grandchildren I have not seen
words to say before senility

Was I a fool that my heirs must say
It's with a smile in youth 'twas true
I remember each to this very day

The finale of this symphony
words repeated from their mother
I will love you each through eternity
