My heart is bursting
it's overflowing with pride
for my little girl
is with child
Her first, my first
grandchild
My bloodline is expanding

Yet my heart is sobbing
yearning to be by her side
So I can tell her
face to face
that I love her and
how proud and full
I am over her happiness

My heart is begrudging
for she lives half way
around the world
away from me
A phone call eases my sorrow
but it's not the same
as being close enough
to give a motherly hug
It's just not the same

Still, my heart is beating strong
for the day we all
come together again
My daughter, her husband
with my grandchild in
my daughter's arms
It will be a day
of splendor and joy
My heart will swell
over the top of
my love for them
and I will be forever
grateful to hold
my grandchild
for the first time
