Gentle, Gentle was the Night
Gentle, gentle was the night when Jesus Christ was born;
Gentle beasts came forth to see Him on that Christmas morn.
Gentle in the way He taught, with love and kindness, too;
And strength to do the things his Father wanted him to do.
“Gentleness,” a word not often heard by us, today;
Kindness and respect for others, too, have gone astray.
Gentle Jesus, help us find our way again, so we
Can be our better selves—be who we know we want to be.
“Life is what we make it”—let us make it better now—
Let us try to get along. The Lord has shown us how.
Let the Christmas spirit find a place in us today
Let us be receptive; let us try to make it stay.
Gentle, gentle was the night when Jesus Christ was born;
Let us celebrate His birth on this new Christmas morn.
