It was a call out of the blue
My secretary said, "This woman
had been trying to talk to you."
We had gone together since
grade school, I had given her a ring
she gave it back on college graduation day
She said she had done many things
Life, however, had not gone well
"I know I made a mistake," she said
I had deeply loved this girl
I could not resist seeing her
We made a date, we made love
I told her I had met another
"I know," she said, "you still carry me
as I carry you. Let's be again.
Can't we?"
"Yes," I said, "You still roam my mind
I dreamed and wished many times
this moment would come to be
Still taste her pouty lips, sweet as cherry wine
Think now how in that pleasure of yesterday
I coulda sacrificed the sweet love I have now
