Return to Sender by Sharon Meda
75 Words Flash Fiction contest entry

During a time when money was scarce, and we had to cut out all excess spending, Colleen came to me one day with a letter she had received from her Grandma the day before. The envelope flap was taped shut, and she had scrawled across the front 'RETURN TO SENDER'.

"What's this?" I asked.

"I'm saving money on a stamp."

With tears, I hugged her hard. Things got better, but that always stuck with me.
