Pondering Faith: A Prose Poem by HarryT
My Faith writing prompt entry

When I was young, I pondered the usual questions: Who am I? Where did I come from?
Why am I here? Is there a God as the Bible asserts or is God dead as Nietzsche claims? Who are we who walk this earth and where will we be when all is done? In others words, what is our human destiny? Some say we will be given reward or punishment. The Hindus say our soul will return to a new physical body and the cycle will be repeated until Karma is achieved; or is it as the godless say, nothingness forever is the true endgame.

Regardless of any belief or not in an afterlife, I know I'm responsible for the who I am. Acceptance or rejection of a hereafter does not change the essence of who I need to be. In my heart I know I am a person who needs to be free. Not one that others wish me to be. Neither others' perceptions nor religions professions will I accept as my commands. My being must be made of the truth of who I am. No lying, no faking, no devising of sneaky shams. I know I must be good and true, always becoming the one who I need to be.

Makes no difference if I know from where the human race came. It might be that by being on earth, means we might just be finite pieces in God's infinite game. I now realize the questions pondering in my brain: Where did I come from? Why am I here? Will I go back to whence I came? The answers really have no bearing on how I play the human game.
