I can't stay
The water calls...
The fears,
The pain
The awful beast
That devours
My soul...
They...
They will remain...
The little stones,
The little stones
Dance in my pockets
Like angels or foes.
Dance between my fingers,
The little stones.
I'm walking on,
I don't look back.
Deeper and deeper
Till I have sunk.
I can't stay,
The water calls.
The river flows,
I live in silver,
I feel no more.

Author Notes
The rules of the event read:
Write a poem as though you are anyone OTHER than yourself. You might be your favorite poet, a famous historical figure, a Roman soldier, a backup singer for Elvis, a slave building the pyramids, but it MUST be a real person. My suggestion is to BECOME the person and write what they would write. Forget about yourself and what YOU would write. Put yourself in your character's shoes and your quill in their hand. Not required, but it would be fun if you'd add a brief description of the character you chose in your author's notes. If you'd rather let us guess, that might be just as fun. LOL Remember, FREE VERSE. Of course, free verse isn't prose that looks like a poem OR words scattered across a page. It is poetry of the highest order restricted only by your own amazing imagination. :))
No deadline.
