I was just like Shirley Temple,
my dancing teacher said.
She put me with the older girls
as I was way ahead.

Each time that we performed
I was on the front row
and always did the solos
in each and every show.

Mom made me beautiful costumes.
I always looked a treat.
I shone in sequins and silver shoes
as I tapped to "Happy Feet".

I was always joyful
as I knew I was the best.
My mother always told me
I was superior to the rest.

I tried to show the other girls
how much better they could be
but they were unappreciative
and very mean to me.

No-one would be my friend
I really wondered why
but Mom said take no notice
So I held my head up high.

One day when Mom and I
we're walking through the door,
one girl stuck her foot out
and we both fell on the floor.

We were really furious,
they were always trying to trick us.
Once they even put
itching powder in my knickers.

The day of the display came.
I'd rehearsed and rehearsed
as I was the star of the show
l was to go on first.

It was at a garden party
outside in the sun.
I waited by the stage
until the music had begun.

It was such a perfect setting
and lovely sunny weather
but I fell flat upon my face.
my shoes had been tied together.
