TODAY IS FATHER'S DAY IN AUSTRALIA so I thought I would continue the theme from my post yesterday about my memories of Dad
A frail hand reaches out, grabs onto my outstretched hand.
His face lined and wrinkled, it's a road map of his long life.
His eyes seemed slightly squinted as he catches my reciprocating gaze.
He has experienced a long and enduring life and has now reached the senility of old age
All my life I have looked up to him. He has shown me direction when I never had it, he has shown me encouragement when I really needed it, inspiration when I was uninspired, love when I was down and the will to never to give up.
I could see a tear in his eye as he caught mine. He knew his days together with me were coming to an end, as I did with him....I held him for what seemed an eternity. I listened as he took his last breath on this Earth. I gently closed his eyelids...I had just lost my best mate, but the memories of a loving life together will always be with me.
Rest in peace Dad; and one day when we meet again we will share our lives and hope that I am holding the hands of my sons like you did with me.
