haibun (Transcendence) by Val Crisson

Bright green Kukui trees line the rough dirt road. Rustling in ocean breezes. The Pacific beckons me. Wild waves swell and crest pounding the shore. Gulls glide above the turquoise surf. White sand blinds my eyes.

Black afternoon storm clouds appear. Threatening. Suddenly and briefly, the rain pelts down. When the storm ceases, the island is dramatically changed. Left behind are colors both surreal and psychedelic. This is a place where life meets with desire. Eternal. Connecting. Painfully bright and beautiful.

Gauguin's dream

Author Notes
As stated before, haibun is a combination of prose and haiku. For me it is a difficult form. None the less, I try to write it . There are many versions of haibun on the internet, which I will not put here. Anyone interested in haibun will figure it out.

Gauguin is a famous impressionist painter. He had a passion for tropical islands, as I do.
Kauai is one of the Hawaiian islands. Enjoy.
