The redemption
So I sat

SO I SAT
So I sat and thought of what he said
Those last words he expressed
As he laid there dying on the bed
Words he wanted me to hear I guess
"Son, don't make the same mistakes
I did in my life
Life is what someone makes
The chances are so rife"
I held his hand there as I listened
A tear ran down my face
And as I looked his eyes glistened
with words I could never replace
"You've been a good man I know this
You know I am so proud
All those memories I will miss
But I will say them out aloud"
"Dad I'll never forget
The little things you did
If I have just one regret
I never told you as a kid"
"I took the things you did for granted
I wish I showed more love
I know I've had a life enchanted
So let me tell you from above"
"You see I never gave the time
That you gave to me
Ignorance is such a crime
I was too blind to see"
Now his life is over clearly
He lays here on the bed
Oh how much, I loved him dearly
So many things I wish I'd said
Death is such a final thing
Never thought it would happen to him
Now I'm listening to the fat lady sing
And the music's his farewell hymn
There's just one thing I want to say
Before you lose your Dad
Always give him the time of day
Remember the good times that you had
Love ya dad

Author Notes
I was there when Dad passed away. I so wish I had spent more time with him in my youth. I so wish I listened to him more. For those who still have a Dad make the effort to communicate and talk with him while you can. Don't have the same guilt I had when he passed. Always find the time...for time together is only fleeting
