Is it reality,
or merely fiction?
Peer in the mirror,
and you will see:
the many faces
of your addiction
Strung along
in its saddest song
prepare to be
tempted and tossed!
A blue note plays;
time signature delays,
you suddenly notice you're lost
In a deep, dark trance
that fluctuates wildly.
"It's just my circumstance",
you think, mildly
As you blindly grasp for
the next "head change",
a quick fix-mix
As the landscape changes,
cell structure rearranges,
a slow, sickening remix
You find yourself dreaming,
day, and night;
all of them seeming
to change from "fun" to "fright",
to outright not turn out right.
But you put on a brave face,
and face that reflection;
it sneers and snarls
in dereliction
You shone in your youth,
but now deny truth
as you row
in the wrong direction
Long ago, when you
first tested the waters,
starting with the toes;
then you dove in like an otter!
You frolicked and played,
then swept away
in the current;
It felt good that day,
but IS a
current deterrent
Slipping deeper into
the murky quagmire,
trying to just stay afloat
getting exponentially tired,
trapped in a
discordant moat
It seems that some
seem not to mind,
muddling up their mind;
while "these others"
like it clearheaded
Lend me your ear
fend off your fear,
and LOOK at
where you are headed!
Do like "these"
and not like "those";
stop consuming yourself
like
Ourobouros
Wanting desperately
to get wired
while all the while
you admire
your lovely, fatal fire
and the flames are
licking higher
You're starting to perspire
they are calling you a liar,
gleefully leaping
through your pyre,
that could be funereal.
Is that your
true desire?

Ouroboros (disambiguation)
A copy of a 1478 drawing by Theodoros Pelecanos, of an alchemical tract attributed to Synesius.
The ouroboros is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail. Originating in Ancient Egyptian iconography, the ouroboros entered western tradition via Greek magical tradition and was adopted as a symbol in Gnosticism and Hermeticism, and most notably in alchemy. Via medieval alchemical tradition, the symbol entered Renaissance magic and modern symbolism, often taken to symbolize introspection, the eternal return or cyclicality, especially in the sense of something constantly re-creating itself. It also represents the infinite cycle of nature's endless creation and destruction, life and death.

Addiction is a serious disease that "strings you along", thinking that you can function. At first, it seems possible, but for 99.9% it IS a progressive condition that worsens continually.

I am illustrating that one of the worst symptoms of this illness is that it eventually causes an "apathy", to where you no longer care what it is doing to you, and everything that you come into contact with.
