Why The Infants? by Jonadab Ezerie

Listen to the echoes beyond the blues
Voices of the unheard we can't lose
An atrocious expression of man's ability
Making lethal our air with hostility

Feeling neither the emotions of love.
A lovely gift, given to us from above
Disguised like a blanket on a cool night
No one knew of the dreadful silent plight

It came like a sudden shock on the skull.
In seconds the air was felt in the breath of all
It came unseen, whispering through the air
Why is the heart of man free from care?

A pang of exquisite suffering rent my heart
A throe of true despair left my lips apart
"Why the infants?" as I searched for answers
The more I search, the more my heart shatters

Their last hour approached in such horror
With flashing images of fear and terror
Until the final moment of their last breath
Feeling the pangs of a slow approaching death

I buried my face in my hands with a sudden low cry
I bent my knees raised my head into the sky
My voice died away in a low mumble on my lips
Then my world went dark like a total eclipse.
