Moon gently rising, Venus glows in the
darkening sky. I rest on a weathered
Adirondack chair as wind-chased whitecaps
spread their lace along the sandy shore
Evening breezes caress my face
fading sun sinks behind a
dense island forest. I sip from a
crystal glass of mellow red wine
I'm carried back in time to a humid
basement on Chicago's southwest side
Pony tailed girls in filmy summer dresses
Boys sporting long slicked-back tresses
Soft blue light illuminates as we sway
so slowly to Elvis's "Love Me Tender"
My hand strokes her damp, sun-tanned back
her bare leg brushes mine, we press together
locked in a dance we thought forever...
Was a time of wistful, teenage dreams
Awakened tonight by tender moonbeams
