cold sparrow shivers upon muddy welcome mat closed door awaits spring Recognized Author Notes I thank Rose (Just2Write) for giving me a list of five hundred kigo words: http://www.2hweb.net/haikai/renku/500ESWd.html A kigo is a word or phrase associated with a particular season. With this list, I observed my environment for any natural incidence which would lend itself to the use of a kigo word for winter. When I returned home one cold and rainy day and saw a bird sheltering itself on my porch ("cold sparrow" is a kigo for late winter), I knew I had an idea for a haiku. Image Google.
