"Halt! Who goes there?" the sentry's call
Rose on the midnight air ...
only a bird
a simple tune
singing without
true agenda
open the gate for the moon scowls
the stars deceive
and darkness absorbs all
"You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch"
she perches proud
preening while prey
are unaware
of nonchalance
scurry little feet, a rat hole
is someone's home
it may as well be yours
"The minstrels played their Christmas tune
Tonight, beneath my cottage eaves;"
catspaw patter
mouse toy splatter
free cheese platter
what's the matter?
isn't freedom free to those who
roam with nothing
but relief when missing
"From time to time, the silence pierced by a birdcall."
a clever mouse
a cunning cat
a crafty hawk
a bullet shot
a bird pot stew--just two will do
a nest of three
the strong survive and sing
