When my teddy bear had an awful cold
with sniffles and a cough and sneezes too
he was a very sad sight to behold
and when he sneezed and sneezed, I said," Bless you."
When my teddy bear had the chicken pox
with those silly, itchy spots all over
I made him a bed in a big shoe box
then I pulled up his sheets and his cover.
When my teddy bear had the nasty flu
and he felt so bad he wanted to cry
I patted his back and I rocked him too
then I sang him a quiet lullaby.
I gave him medicine that helped I'm sure
but my hugs and kisses were the real cure.

Author Notes
I want to introduce children to the form of poetry as well as the sound, language, and meaning. The sonnet is usually about more lofty subjects than teddy bears, but I want to familiarize children with specific forms of poetry, in this case the sonnet, so I have chosen a topic, teddy bears, that appeals to children of different ages.
