I've walked this road so many times
and sung those sad, sad songs;
poignant words in pain-filled verse
those tears to past belong.
Those memories that disappoint
the cares the soul can't lift;
and auld lang syne just breaks your heart
like cracking timbers' shift.
My mind grasps thoughts of fate-filled times
like bumps upon a hill;
those days of life where love's dance lost
a rose of hope can kill.
And yet I look at gains and loss
I really can't complain;
hope's melodies have filled my life
to love-light's sweet refrain.
So I'll not walk in tears' regret
like flotsam lost at sea,
for loss is really gain to me
from burdens I am free.

Author Notes
I've had many sad times in my life, I'd have to say I've been the cause of a great deal of them myself. But my life, when I look back, God has graciously repaired the broken walls of my existence, and somehow turned them around miraculously I have been a very fortunate and blessed man, and I am truly grateful to Him.
Philippians 3:8 "Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ." ESV
